In a recent development, the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has taken decisive action against an establishment in Dammam, referring it to the Public Prosecution for manipulating the expiration dates of cosmetic products.
The SFDA’s scrutiny revealed that the implicated establishment engaged in the illicit trade of expired cosmetic items, having altered and erased the expiry dates, thus violating the Cosmetic Products Law. The authority, committed to upholding regulatory standards, has initiated legal proceedings against those accountable for these violations.
Upon amassing substantial evidence pertaining to the offense, the SFDA has formally directed the establishment and the individuals responsible for the transgressions to the Public Prosecution for an in-depth investigation. The aim is to undertake legal measures in accordance with the stipulations of the law.
The Cosmetic Products Law, as outlined in Article 31, categorizes actions such as deceptive practices or fraud in cosmetic products, dealing with adulterated or expired items, or contravening specified product data as violations. Furthermore, Article 34 prescribes a range of penalties for contravening the law or its executive regulations, including hefty fines, temporary closure of facilities, license cancellations, and imprisonment for a period not exceeding five years. Repeat offenses may incur doubled penalties.
