Saudi authorities have cracked down on fraudulent practices in the fuel industry, closing down 39 stations across the Kingdom suspected of tampering with fuel quantities. The closures came as a result of extensive inspection raids conducted in 19 cities and governorates.
Officials from the Permanent Executive Committee for Fuel Stations and Service Centers, representing various ministries and regulatory bodies, spearheaded the inspections. Their vigilance uncovered illegal devices installed at these stations, designed to manipulate the amounts of fuel dispensed to motorists.
The violations, which contravened the Law of Calibration and Measurements and the Anti-Commercial Fraud Law, prompted swift legal action. The authorities initiated legal proceedings against the implicated stations and their staff, with plans to escalate the matter to the Public Prosecution for further action.
Emphasizing the gravity of adherence to regulations, the Committee underscored the pivotal role of gas stations and their employees in maintaining integrity within the sector. Any attempts to deceive or defraud consumers will be met with stringent penalties, in accordance with established regulations.
