A contractor at Scotland’s Torness nuclear station has satisfied two improvement notices imposed after workers faced possible asbestos exposure, the Office for Nuclear Regulation announced on October 15.
Trillium Flow Services UK has demonstrated arrangements for tracking the completion of asbestos-related work logs and assessing whether asbestos is present before maintenance, the regulator said.
The announcement concerns the outcome of earlier enforcement action. The incident occurred during a planned outage in March, when workers overhauled a valve in the steam system. The notices were announced in June.
At that time, ONR said information about suspected asbestos identified during earlier work had not reached the site’s central register. It said there had been no risk to nuclear safety, the public or the environment.
Two notices were also issued to EDF. October’s statement confirms Trillium’s compliance; it does not report the outcome of EDF’s separate requirements.
Improvement notices require specified shortcomings to be addressed. This announcement does not disclose a new prosecution, conviction or fine.
