The United States has urged Israel to investigate and prosecute those responsible for an attack on American photojournalist Heidi Levine in the occupied West Bank.
Ambassador Mike Huckabee made the demand on October 17, saying Levine had been clearly identified as a journalist and had suffered serious injuries. He called for an investigation, arrests and prosecution of anyone involved.
The statement seeks criminal accountability; it does not announce that suspects have been charged or convicted. Huckabee said the identities of those under investigation were still being established.
Levine was assaulted on October 16 while covering the Palestinian olive harvest. Israeli police have said they opened an investigation. The new development is Washington’s subsequent demand for prosecutions, rather than the earlier assault itself.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio also addressed the case in October 17 remarks to reporters. He said the United States had asked Israeli authorities to act, while stressing that officials were still gathering facts.
Neither official’s comments determine criminal responsibility or substitute for an investigation and court proceedings.
