Abu Dhabi Judicial Department Assumes Control Over Penal and Juvenile Facilities in Bold Reform Initiative

In a transformative move, the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) has officially taken charge of managing penal, correctional, and juvenile facilities in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. This significant shift in responsibility, as per the Law issued by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, underscores a strategic realignment to fortify the judicial system.

Counselor Yousef Saeed Al Abri, the Undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, commended the foresighted vision of the Emirate’s leadership in advancing the judicial landscape. The transition, meticulously overseen by His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, aims to expedite access to justice, reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s competitive edge and global prominence.

Acknowledging the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters for their cooperative spirit, Al Abri lauded their exemplary partnership and strategic integration. The collaboration facilitated seamless data exchange and information transfer, laying the groundwork for achieving the overarching goals of this strategic reshaping.

Over the past three months, the department engaged in extensive deliberations with the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters and the executive team managing the institutions. These efforts focused on enhancing readiness and implementing a world-class system that not only delivers high-quality services globally but also efficiently fulfills its duties to safeguard societal rights and fortify the foundations of security and stability.

Set to take effect on January 1, 2024, the law signifies a commitment to bolstering the reform and rehabilitation system in the Emirate. It aspires to establish a pioneering framework that addresses challenges, introduces innovative solutions, and integrates the best international practices across all pertinent domains. This bold initiative seeks to elevate the global stature of Abu Dhabi in its unwavering pursuit of excellence.
