Australian financial firms submitted 11,838 initial breach reports in the year to June 30, 2026, according to newly published ASIC data—490 fewer than in the preceding year.
The regulator expanded its Reportable Situations dashboard on October 19 to cover two full years. It tracks the nature of reported breaches, customer effects, firms’ corrective work and remediation.
Australian financial services licensees accounted for 7,673 reports and credit licensees for 4,520. Those figures cannot simply be added: businesses holding both licences are counted in both categories.
The reporting regime requires licensees to notify ASIC of relevant breaches, helping the regulator identify systemic problems and firms requiring closer attention. These are self-reported matters, not a tally of court judgments establishing misconduct.
The figures can also change after publication. Firms update reports as investigations progress and further information emerges about losses, customer impact or compensation.
ASIC cautions that an earlier dashboard is therefore a snapshot, rather than a permanently fixed record of every outcome.
