In the aftermath of the recent release of court documents shedding light on the activities of the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, British law enforcement officials clarified on Friday that no new investigation has been initiated regarding allegations against Prince Andrew.
Prince Andrew, 63, the younger sibling of King Charles, has consistently refuted claims of sexual misconduct. His denial comes despite settling a U.S. lawsuit in February 2022, filed by Virginia Giuffre, who accused him of sexually abusing her during her teenage years.
While details of Giuffre’s allegations and those of another Epstein accuser have been previously disclosed, the recently unsealed court documents revealed the extent of Epstein’s alleged sex trafficking operations.
In October 2021, London’s Metropolitan Police (MPS) decided against taking action against Prince Andrew following a review of evidence prompted by Giuffre’s lawsuit. Despite calls from the anti-monarchy group Republic to reopen the case, the MPS confirmed that no new inquiry had been launched.
The MPS stated in a released statement, “We are aware of the release of court documents in relation to Jeffrey Epstein. As with any matter, should new and relevant information be brought to our attention, we will assess it.”
Stripped of most titles and relieved of official royal duties due to his association with Epstein, the Duke of York’s reputation has suffered irreparable damage. Despite vehemently denying any wrongdoing or connection to Giuffre, who claimed abuse at Epstein’s properties, Prince Andrew, eighth in line to the throne, has been excluded from holding public roles.
Buckingham Palace, acknowledging Prince Andrew’s diminished status as a non-working royal, has refrained from commenting on the recent developments.
