In a unanimous decision by the Shura Council, Bahrain has reinforced its commitment to safeguarding sensitive state information and documents. Under the newly amended State Information and Documents Protection Law, employees within entities where the state holds majority ownership or contributes to management are now officially designated as civil servants.
The impetus behind this legislative move is clear: bolstering the security measures surrounding state information and documents. With cyber threats looming larger than ever, the need for heightened vigilance is paramount. The amended law mandates responsible individuals to diligently preserve and protect documents, shielding them from tampering, loss, or damage. Moreover, strict protocols are established to restrict the disclosure of information to unauthorized individuals or entities.
Key to the enforcement of this law is the establishment of a national data center, equipped with secure cloud storage facilities. Every piece of information and document, especially those saved electronically, will find its repository in this central hub. By integrating all national databases with this center, information can be promptly saved and updated, ensuring real-time protection.
Dr. Ali Al Rumaihi, Chairman of the Shura Council’s foreign affairs, defense, and national security committee, emphasized the necessity of broadening the scope of responsibility. In an era of escalating cyber threats, inclusivity becomes imperative. Officials in state-owned enterprises are now enlisted in this endeavor to fortify security measures comprehensively.
Beyond the legislative amendment, the session also touched upon vital matters concerning foreign relations and education. Members were briefed on parliamentary efforts regarding the Palestinian crisis and initiatives aimed at providing education to refugees. Additionally, attention was drawn to the welfare of students with learning disabilities. Education Minister Dr. Mohammed Mubarak Juma assured the allocation of necessary resources to ensure the integration and progress of special students within the educational system.
With these measures in place, Bahrain stands poised to safeguard its vital information assets while ensuring the inclusivity and welfare of its citizens in the educational sphere.
