Indian authorities have announced four arrests over an alleged plan to move suspected methamphetamine from Tamil Nadu to Sri Lanka through a transfer at sea.
The Finance Ministry’s October 18 account says the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence seized a consignment weighing 137 kilograms gross from a coastal village in Nagapattinam district. That figure is not a laboratory measurement of the quantity of pure methamphetamine.
Officers conducted surveillance and enforcement operations on October 16 and 17 after receiving intelligence that drugs had been brought to the coast for storage and onward smuggling. The ministry said the consignment was intended for Sri Lanka.
Searches uncovered six bags containing 27 foil-wrapped packets of a white crystalline substance suspected to be methamphetamine. The seizure was made under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
According to the ministry, four people were arrested under that Act and remanded in judicial custody. The announcement does not establish their guilt.
The reported illicit-market valuation exceeds ₹100 crore. It is an enforcement estimate, not a price established by a court or an award of confiscation proceeds.
