In a move to modernize and invigorate its postal sector, Qatar’s Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) has announced a public consultation on proposed postal service licenses. This initiative invites stakeholders to contribute their feedback on three draft licenses: one for Qatar Postal Services Company, one for domestic courier services, and one for international courier services.
This consultation aims to foster transparency and fairness in the regulatory landscape, as outlined in Law No. (15) of 2023. Stakeholders are encouraged to submit their responses to specific questions provided in the consultation guidelines by August 29, 2024. The CRA seeks detailed feedback tailored to each license type to ensure the new framework meets the diverse needs of the postal market.
The initiative aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Digital Agenda 2030, promoting increased competition, innovation, and service quality within the postal industry. By opening the market to greater competition, the CRA hopes to enhance the business environment, support e-commerce growth, and advance the digital economy.
This effort is part of Qatar’s broader strategy to modernize its regulatory practices and enhance consumer protections. The CRA is also planning additional workshops to discuss feedback and further refine the regulatory framework, including upcoming consultations on license applications, fees, and service standards.
Stakeholders interested in contributing can find the consultation documents and guidelines on the CRA’s website and are invited to send their feedback via email to [email protected].
