QICDRC Unpacks Major Court Rulings in New Case Digest Review

The Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre (QICDRC) has brought together members of the legal and dispute resolution community in Doha to examine significant court decisions from the first half of 2026, alongside the release of its latest Case Digest.

Organised in collaboration with LexisNexis, the session focused on notable rulings delivered during the first six months of the year, exploring the legal principles behind them and their practical implications for businesses, legal professionals and other stakeholders.

The discussion was led by Muna AlKaabi, Case Progression Manager, and Mohamed Al-Ansari, Case Manager at QICDRC. They walked participants through selected cases, highlighting important legal developments and the lessons emerging from the Court’s recent decisions.

Faisal bin Rashid Al-Sahouti, Chief Executive Officer of QICDRC, said the publication reflects the institution’s ongoing efforts to make its judicial decisions easier to understand and access.

He noted that presenting key rulings alongside their practical implications helps strengthen legal awareness among the business and professional communities while supporting a more transparent and predictable dispute resolution environment.

The Case Digest H1 2026 offers a concise overview of selected cases heard by QICDRC during the first half of the year. It is intended to help legal practitioners, businesses and other interested parties follow important developments in the Court’s jurisprudence without having to navigate individual decisions separately.

The latest publication forms part of QICDRC’s broader knowledge-sharing efforts, which aim to deepen understanding of its case law and contribute to the evolution of dispute resolution practices in Qatar.

QICDRC’s Role in Qatar’s Legal and Business Landscape

Established under Qatar Financial Centre Law No. 7 of 2005, as amended, the Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre comprises the Civil and Commercial Court of the Qatar Financial Centre and the QFC Regulatory Tribunal.

The institution forms part of Qatar’s wider ambition to establish an internationally competitive financial centre capable of attracting global businesses and financial services. Its court system is designed to provide specialised civil and commercial dispute resolution in line with international standards, with an emphasis on efficiency, accessibility and judicial independence.

The Civil and Commercial Court handles a range of civil and commercial matters, including certain disputes arising from the Qatar Free Zones Authority and Qatar Media City. Its judges come from different legal traditions and jurisdictions, bringing experience from both civil law and common law systems.

The Court is led by its President, Lord Thomas of Cwmgiedd, former Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales. Its judicial bench includes members from Qatar, England and Wales, France, Australia, Singapore, China and South Africa.

The QFC Regulatory Tribunal serves a separate function, hearing appeals by individuals and companies against decisions made by the QFC Authority, the QFC Regulatory Authority and other QFC institutions. It also considers certain appeals involving the suspension or revocation of licences held by companies operating within Qatar’s free zones.

Chaired by Sir William Blair, the Tribunal brings together judges from Qatar, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, India and the United States, with specialist expertise in regulatory disputes.

Through its Case Digest publications and professional discussions, QICDRC continues to make its decisions more accessible, offering businesses and practitioners a clearer view of the legal principles shaping commercial and regulatory dispute resolution in Qatar.
