Saudi Arabia Embarks on Transformative Overhaul of Legal Framework

Riyadh—Saudi Arabia is poised to undertake a sweeping review of its legal framework, a move aimed at revolutionizing the legal profession and aligning it with the nation’s ambitious Vision 2030 goals. The announcement was made during the inaugural session of the Saudi Lawyers Conference in Riyadh, a pivotal event spotlighting advancements in the legal sector.

Dr. Walid Al-Samaani, Minister of Justice and Chairman of the Saudi Bar Association, emphasized the transformative scope of the initiative. “This comprehensive review will empower legal practitioners, enhance access to justice, and ensure the legal system evolves alongside societal and economic developments,” he stated. The effort will be executed in collaboration with the Saudi Bar Association, reflecting a unified commitment to modernization.

Under the banner “Developments in the Lawyers and Legal Consultations Sector,” the conference underscored the evolving landscape of the legal field, which has been a cornerstone of Saudi Arabia’s developmental trajectory. Al-Samaani highlighted how specialized legislation has redefined the profession, fostering a climate where legal practitioners play an increasingly critical role in diverse judicial and administrative processes.

The Kingdom’s legal advancements, championed by the leadership of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, have placed the legal profession at the forefront of national transformation. “The reliance on skilled lawyers is growing, and their versatility makes them indispensable across legal and administrative domains,” the minister noted.

Among the forthcoming initiatives, Al-Samaani announced streamlined processes for renewing legal licenses, reducing approval times to just 15 days. This measure is designed to bolster the legal workforce and facilitate the seamless practice of law across the country.

The Saudi Lawyers Conference also delved into the broader implications of legislative reforms on the legal profession, particularly their potential to enhance the nation’s business and investment climate.
