Basque police have arrested two people in Irun in a terrorism investigation involving information about security forces and a possible location for weapons and explosives.
The Ertzaintza said the two Spanish nationals, a 34-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman, attended the police station with their lawyer on October 17 and were arrested as the investigation advanced.
The case began with a September 26 stop in Eskoriatza. Officers identified three people and found material that police described as sensitive, including information about security forces and a possible storage site. The statement does not say that weapons or explosives were themselves recovered.
Investigators subsequently opened communications with the Audiencia Nacional, Spain’s national court, because they considered that the facts might amount to a terrorism offence. Police said contacts with the judicial authorities had progressed substantially in recent days.
The arrests are an investigative step, not convictions. The official statement does not identify the suspects or establish their guilt.
Police said the pair would be brought before the Audiencia Nacional after statements were taken and the relevant investigative work completed. The inquiry remains open.
