The owner of a Texas construction company has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for obstructing the Internal Revenue Service’s attempt to collect employment taxes withheld from workers.
David Stone previously pleaded guilty to corruptly endeavoring to obstruct the administration of federal tax laws. Court records said he failed to pay over employment taxes collected for Engineered Metals Company, a roofing, siding and sheet-metal business he owned. Once collection proceedings began, Stone stopped filing personal income-tax returns and used business accounts for expenses including child support and alimony, concealing income and keeping funds out of his own name.
The conduct continued from 2013 through 2024 and produced a tax loss of about $1.4 million, prosecutors said. The court also imposed one year of supervised release and ordered approximately $1,384,766 in restitution. The Justice Department announcement records the sentence.
