Understanding Legal Boundaries: The Consequences of Illegal Fireworks Trade

In a bid to disseminate legal knowledge and foster a culture of compliance within the community, the Public Prosecution’s Criminal Information Centre (Waey) took to social media with an enlightening video outlining the repercussions of engaging in illicit fireworks trade.

According to Article 54 of Federal Decree Law No. 17 of 2019 on Weapons, Ammunition, Explosives, Military Material, and Hazardous Substances, individuals involved in the trading, importing, exporting, manufacturing, or transportation of fireworks without proper authorization face severe penalties. These penalties include imprisonment for a minimum of one year and fines starting at AED100,000, or both.

Explosives, as defined in Article 1 of the law, encompass a broad spectrum of chemical compounds capable of reacting under specific conditions to produce pressure, heat, and speed, thereby posing a threat to the surrounding environment. This definition explicitly includes fireworks.

Article 3 of the law further emphasizes the stringent regulations surrounding the possession, acquisition, transportation, and trade of weapons, ammunition, explosives, and hazardous substances. It mandates obtaining a license or permit from the appropriate authorities before engaging in any such activities.

The dissemination of this awareness video underscores the Public Prosecution’s unwavering commitment to enhancing legal literacy and keeping the community abreast of the latest legislative developments. By increasing awareness and understanding of the law, the initiative aims to curb illicit activities and promote a safer and more compliant society.
