A federal court has sentenced Wenshen Xu, a Honduras-based Chinese national extradited from Guatemala, to 12 years in prison for cocaine trafficking, laundering drug proceeds and providing material support to the Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generación.
Xu also received five years of supervised release and a $22 million money judgment. Court records said he used transport contacts, airstrips, armored vehicles and couriers in Latin America to move multi-kilogram cocaine loads into the United States. Prosecutors attributed more than 450 kilograms of cocaine and over $22 million in laundered proceeds to the conspiracy between November 2023 and Xu’s July 2025 arrest.
The laundering methods included cryptocurrency, trade-based transfers and encrypted communications. Guatemalan authorities arrested Xu at the United States’ request, and he was extradited in January 2026. The Justice Department announcement sets out the sentence and admitted conduct.
