In a recent crackdown by Saudi authorities, five gasoline stations across Riyadh and Jubail have been ordered shut down due to their involvement in manipulating pump meter readings. The discovery came to light during meticulous inspections conducted jointly by the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Commerce, and the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO), under the watchful eye of the Permanent Executive Committee for Fuel Stations and Service Centers.
Officials unearthed clandestine devices installed at these stations, surreptitiously altering the volume of fuel dispensed to unsuspecting motorists. These illicit modifications not only violated the Law of Calibration and Measurements but also transgressed the Anti-Commercial Fraud Law, warranting swift and decisive action from the authorities.
Legal measures have been swiftly initiated against both the fuel stations and their implicated staff members for their blatant disregard of regulatory statutes. The cases have been promptly forwarded to the Public Prosecution for further legal proceedings.
Underscoring a staunch commitment to consumer rights, the Permanent Executive Committee for Fuel Stations and Service Centers reiterated the imperative for adherence to all stipulated regulations within the gas station and service center domain.
