Stricter Vehicle Registration Rules Enforced in Qatar

In a recent announcement, authorities in Qatar have tightened regulations concerning the registration of vehicles from outside the country. Effective immediately, vehicles outside Qatar will not be permitted to renew their registration without undergoing a mandatory technical inspection within the country.

According to Brigadier Muftah, failure to comply with these regulations will result in severe consequences. Violators may face administrative impounding of their vehicles for up to 90 days, along with legal action. The Traffic Law specifies penalties including imprisonment for a minimum of one week and a fine ranging from QR3,000 to QR10,000 for non-compliance.

Furthermore, the regulations extend to the usage of road lanes by specific vehicle types. Buses carrying more than 25 passengers, taxis, and limousines are now prohibited from using the left lane on roads with three or more lanes in each direction. Delivery motorcycle riders are required to utilize the right lane on all roads, with lane changes permitted at least 300 meters before intersections.

These measures, enforced as of May 22, 2024, underscore Qatar’s commitment to ensuring road safety and regulatory compliance. Non-adherence to these directives will result in strict legal repercussions, as outlined by Brigadier Muftah in accordance with Article 95 of the Traffic Law.
