The Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) is set to eliminate daily trading price limits for Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) and futures contracts, marking a significant change aimed at improving market efficiency and deepening liquidity. The new framework will come into force on August 3, 2026.
By removing daily trading bands, the exchange intends to allow ETF and futures prices to react instantly to market developments instead of being constrained by preset limits. The change is expected to encourage more accurate price discovery, improve continuous liquidity, and reduce trading interruptions that can occur when securities hit daily price thresholds.
The decision forms part of ADX’s broader effort to modernize its trading environment and create a market structure that is more responsive to investor activity. Officials believe the move will help streamline trading while enhancing the overall quality of price formation across these investment products.
ADX has emerged as the Middle East and North Africa’s largest hub for ETF trading, offering investors access to a diverse lineup of products, including thematic investment funds and Sharia-compliant ETFs. Eliminating daily price restrictions is expected to further strengthen the exchange’s appeal by enabling smoother execution and greater flexibility for investors seeking diversified market exposure.
The policy change also represents another step in expanding the exchange’s derivatives ecosystem. Without daily price caps, market participants will have greater freedom to hedge portfolios and execute sophisticated trading strategies without being constrained by artificial price boundaries.
While the exchange is removing fixed daily limits, it emphasized that safeguards against excessive market volatility will remain in place. ADX said it will continue monitoring trading activity and retains the ability to impose temporary trading pauses during exceptional situations to preserve orderly market conditions.
The latest reform aligns with the exchange’s long-term strategy of building a technologically advanced marketplace capable of supporting efficient capital allocation, stronger liquidity, and improved risk management for institutional and retail investors alike.
