HSBC Begins Search for Pam Kaur’s Successor as CFO

HSBC has begun looking for its next chief financial officer after Pam Kaur confirmed she will leave the role in 2027, setting the stage for a leadership transition at one of the world’s largest banks.

Kaur is expected to step down as CFO and executive director ahead of HSBC’s annual general meeting, typically held in early May. The bank said the precise timing of her departure will be announced later.

Rather than leaving HSBC immediately, Kaur will move into an advisory role, where she will work with Chief Executive Georges Elhedery on strategic initiatives and help ensure an orderly handover. Elhedery previously served as HSBC’s permanent CFO before taking over as CEO.

Kaur, who took charge of HSBC’s finances at the beginning of 2025, said the bank was in a strong financial and strategic position and that 2027 represented the right point in her career to pursue new leadership opportunities elsewhere.

Her departure will bring to a close a 13-year career with HSBC. She initially joined the bank as group head of audit before moving into the roles of chief risk and compliance officer and, later, CFO.

Kaur brings nearly four decades of experience across the UK and US banking sectors. Before joining HSBC, she held senior positions spanning audit, operations and compliance at institutions including Deutsche Bank, NatWest Group, Lloyds Banking Group and Citigroup.

HSBC’s board has already started the succession process and plans to assess both candidates from within the bank and potential external appointments.
