Former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 15 years in prison in New York for sexually assaulting former production assistant Miriam Haley in 2006.
The sentence was handed down on Wednesday by Manhattan Judge Curtis Farber, following Weinstein’s conviction at a retrial in 2025. Weinstein, now 74, was found guilty of first-degree criminal sexual act for the assault at his Manhattan apartment.
Weinstein has continued to deny the allegations and maintains that any sexual encounters were consensual.
The case is the latest chapter in a lengthy legal battle that began with Weinstein’s landmark conviction in New York in 2020. He was initially sentenced to 23 years after being convicted of assaulting Haley and raping aspiring actress Jessica Mann.
That conviction was overturned by New York’s highest court in 2024, which ruled that Weinstein had not received a fair trial and ordered a new proceeding.
At the 2025 retrial, jurors again found Weinstein guilty in connection with Haley’s allegation. He was acquitted of a separate accusation brought by former model Kaja Sokola, while jurors could not reach a verdict on the rape allegation involving Mann.
The Mann case subsequently went to trial again, but ended in a mistrial in May. The charge was later dropped after Mann indicated that she did not want to testify in another trial.
Separately, Weinstein remains imprisoned because of a conviction in California. He was found guilty there in 2022 of rape and sexual assault and received a 16-year sentence. A California appeals court upheld those convictions in June but ordered a new sentencing proceeding after determining that the judge had relied on Weinstein’s since-overturned New York convictions as an aggravating factor.
Weinstein’s legal troubles became a defining episode of the #MeToo era, which brought widespread attention to allegations of sexual misconduct involving powerful figures in entertainment and other industries.
More than 100 women have publicly accused Weinstein of misconduct. He has denied the allegations.
