In a bid to solidify its standing on the world stage, the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD), through its Judicial Academy (ADJA), recently hosted a collaborative workshop with the Institute of Justice from the Republic of Korea. This initiative centered on the latest strategies for managing rehabilitation and correctional centers, aiming to share knowledge and insights on international best practices.
The workshop is part of an ongoing series designed to foster global partnerships, aligning with directives from His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The focus remains on strengthening international ties and adopting proven methods from across the globe.
Counsellor Hasan Alhammadi, who leads the Prosecution Affairs Division in Abu Dhabi, underscored the UAE’s dedication to rehabilitating inmates and ensuring their successful reintegration into society. He also highlighted the nation’s robust legal framework governing these centers and its active role in global human rights efforts. A significant milestone in this area was the recent enactment of Law No. 4 of 2024, which enhances the operational management of rehabilitation and correctional centers under the Judicial Department.
From Korea, Lee Ki-hyun, Director of the Correctional Training Department, emphasized the collaborative potential between Abu Dhabi and Korean judicial institutions, particularly in exchanging advanced systems and training programs. Korean experts, including Professors Ahn Hyo Jeong and Lee Seok Jin, further elaborated on the innovative use of technology, vocational training, and modern educational programs in their correctional facilities. These initiatives aim to prepare inmates, especially juveniles, for societal reintegration while minimizing recidivism and upholding human rights.
