Blocked Biden Nominee Lands at Linklaters Amid Firm’s U.S. Expansion

Adeel Mangi, whose path to becoming the first Muslim judge on a U.S. federal appeals court was derailed by Senate opposition, has found a new home at international law firm Linklaters. The firm confirmed his addition on Friday as part of its ongoing expansion in New York.

Mangi, previously nominated by Joe Biden for a seat on the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, joins Linklaters alongside legal heavyweights Muhammad Faridi, Diana Conner, and George LoBiondo. The group arrives from Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler, marking another major recruitment move for Linklaters after a series of high-profile hires in finance and corporate law.

The firm’s U.S. revenue saw a 24% jump in the past year, fueling an aggressive growth strategy. Adam Lurie, head of Linklaters’ U.S. litigation, arbitration, and investigations team, praised the new additions, noting their experience comes at a time of increasing trial activity.

Mangi, a seasoned litigator, was outspoken after his judicial nomination collapsed in December, condemning what he described as a “coordinated smear campaign.” He later informed Biden that his confirmation battle highlighted deep flaws in the judicial appointment system.

Meanwhile, Patterson Belknap’s leadership extended well wishes to their former colleagues as they transition to their new roles at Linklaters.
