In a sweeping anti-corruption blitz, Saudi Arabia’s Nazaha, the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority, has apprehended 155 government officials. This comes after an intensive month of inspection raids, totaling 924 operations in June alone.
Nazaha’s recent statement, shared via its X account, outlines the breadth of the crackdown. Spanning multiple ministries—including Interior, Health, Education, Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, Commerce, Transport and Logistics, and Culture—officials were implicated in a range of corruption charges: bribery, abuse of power, forgery, and money laundering.
The investigation has cast a wide net, probing 382 individuals. Notably, some have been released on bail, though the clampdown continues unabated. Nazaha’s commitment to accountability extends even to those no longer in public service, ensuring that misuse of public funds and positions is met with strict consequences.
With oversight rounds hitting 9,623 during the Hajj season and past operations resulting in over 5,235 arrests between 2021 and 2023, Nazaha remains relentless. Their message is clear: corruption will be pursued and punished with unwavering diligence.
