Employment Law Essentials Training 5 Dec and 13 Dec

Delivered over two 1/2 days by a very experienced employment lawyer, this training offers an excellent foundation in key UK employment law.

Our Employment Law Essentials Training covers the important ‘basic’ law to be aware of at both the pre-employment and during employment. It helps delegates better understand when taking legal advice would be wise, builds confidence in decision-making and knowledge in areas of the law which businesses often get wrong.

Our training is open to all but especially designed for:-

  • HR Professionals looking to refresh their knowledge
  • Early career stage HR practitioners developing their employment law understanding
  • People Managers seeking a firm foundation in employment law

Our training is delivered on-line across two half days on 5 and 13 December starting at 9.30am and finishing at 12.30pm on each date. Total cost: £300 + VAT *

This training will be delivered by one of our senior employment lawyers, Anne-Marie Boyle She will cover the following topics and will embed learning with practical exercises and plenty of opportunities for questions:

Part 1, 5 Dec: Pre-employment & employment law basics

  • The recruitment process
  • The contract, when employment starts, withdrawing offers, cancelling contracts
  • Pre-employment checks
  • Employment status: who is or isn’t an employee?
  • Part-time work, fixed-term contracts, agency employees
  • Flexible working & dependent leave requests
  • Parental bereavement leave
  • Family leave in all its forms
  • Email/internet/social media abuse

Part 2, 13 Dec : Employment law basics continued

  • Discrimination: direct, indirect, associative and perceptive
  • Protected characteristics, harassment and bullying
  • Absenteeism, poor performers and performance management
  • Capability procedures & dealing with misconduct
  • Employee mental health
  • Dealing with grievances
  • Dismissing those with less than 2 years’ service
  • ACAS Code of Practice on disciplinary & grievance procedures
  • Redundancy procedure and dismissals
  • Fair dismissals & dealing with appeals
  • Wrongful & Constructive dismissal
  • The cost of getting it wrong, compensation levels
  • Settlement Agreements
  • Employment Tribunals and ACAS Early Conciliation
