Ex-Biden Counsel Joins Kramer Levin, Reunites with Old Colleagues

In a strategic career move, Richard Sauber, the former White House special counsel who navigated the scrutiny over President Biden’s classified documents, has joined Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel. Announced on Monday, Sauber will operate from the firm’s Washington, D.C. office as a partner. His role will involve guiding clients through Congressional and other federal and state investigations.

This transition marks Sauber’s return to familiar territory, reconnecting with former associates from Robbins, Russell, Englert, Orseck & Untereiner, a firm that merged with Kramer Levin in March 2022. Sauber expressed enthusiasm about reengaging with previous clients and exploring new opportunities at his new firm.

Previously, Sauber left his position at Robbins in 2021 to serve as general counsel for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and later joined the White House in 2022. His role there included managing the investigation into classified documents found at Biden’s residences. Despite the investigation’s conclusion without charges, Sauber criticized certain comments made about Biden’s memory, calling them “inappropriate and unwarranted.”

Following the investigation’s end in May, Sauber’s departure from the White House led him to Kramer Levin, where he will likely leverage his extensive experience in high-stakes legal battles.
