In a historic move set to redefine the landscape of entertainment, Hollywood luminaries and media mavens have clinched a landmark agreement with major record labels, including industry giants like Warner Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment. This groundbreaking accord not only heralds increases in minimum salaries but also fortifies defenses against the encroaching realm of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Spanning a robust five-year period from 2021 to 2026, the meticulously crafted pact garnered unanimous approval from the executive echelons of SAG-AFTRA, a bastion representing approximately 160,000 actors and media professionals.

Particularly vexing is the incursion of generative AI into the music industry, birthing compositions eerily reminiscent of artists’ voices, often sans their explicit consent. In a resolute stance, the SAG-AFTRA union has cemented provisions mandating both consent and compensation prior to the release of any song featuring a digital replication of an artist’s voice. Moreover, the agreement unequivocally stipulates that terms such as “artist,” “singer,” and “royalty artist” are the sole domain of flesh-and-blood creators.
