Kuwait Cracks Down on Illegal Expats: June 17 Deadline Looms

The Ministry of Interior in Kuwait has declared a firm stance on violators of the Residency Law, setting June 17 as the final deadline for illegal expatriates to either leave the country or legalize their status without incurring fines. This ultimatum marks the end of a humanitarian grace period aimed at allowing offenders to rectify their situation.

Post-deadline, the ministry plans to ramp up efforts to identify and deport those who remain non-compliant. Security sources have emphasized that violators who do not take advantage of the legal frameworks available to amend their status by June 17 will face intensified scrutiny and inevitable deportation. Once deported, individuals will be barred from re-entering Kuwait.

Last year alone, the ministry apprehended and deported approximately 40,000 individuals in violation of the Residency Law. Currently, estimates suggest that around 120,000 violators remain, underscoring the ministry’s urgent call for compliance before the impending crackdown.
