Elon Musk, never one to shy away from controversy, has now set his sights on U.S. law firms that are challenging key policies of President Donald Trump’s administration.
“Which law firms are pushing these anti-democratic cases to impede the will of the people?” Musk posted on his social media platform, X, calling out legal efforts that have stalled Trump’s sweeping changes.
While he didn’t name specific firms, his frustration was clear—particularly over a ruling by U.S. District Judge Angel Kelley that temporarily blocked sharp federal funding cuts for universities, medical centers, and research institutions. That lawsuit, led by Democratic attorneys general from 22 states, is just one of several legal battles the administration faces.
Musk went further, accusing the judiciary of sabotaging democracy. “Democracy in America is being destroyed by judicial coup,” he declared in another post.
Among the firms involved in lawsuits against the administration are Jenner & Block and Ropes & Gray, both representing groups fighting against funding reductions. More than eight major firms have taken on cases challenging Trump’s policies on funding, immigration, and transgender rights—many doing so pro bono.
Musk has a history of targeting law firms he sees as adversarial. In 2022, he blasted Perkins Coie for what he called a history of corruption, linking the firm to work done for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign. Now, with legal challenges mounting against Trump, he’s once again using his platform to put law firms in the crosshairs.
