Saudi Authorities Crack Down on 79 Car Dealers for Competition Law Violations

In a sweeping enforcement action, Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Competition has taken decisive measures against 79 automotive firms, ranging from agents to distributors, for breaching Competition Law throughout 2023. The violations, which included illicit price-fixing and market segmentation tactics, were deemed detrimental to fair competition and consumer interests.

Among the charged entities, 64 face criminal proceedings, while the remaining 15 await the authority’s decision on settlement requests. The crackdown extends beyond the automotive sector, encompassing cases against pharmacies, retail markets, poultry producers, and IT firms involved in bid collusion and anti-competitive practices. This comprehensive initiative underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to maintaining a level playing field across various industries, safeguarding economic integrity and consumer welfare alike.
