Saudi Authorities Launch Probe into Alleged Corruption Involving Hundreds of Government Employees

In Riyadh, the Saudi Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha) has set its sights on rooting out corruption within the government, initiating an investigation into the activities of 268 employees throughout the month of April.

The scope of the investigation spans various government sectors, including the Ministries of Interior, Defense, National Guard, Justice, Health, Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, as well as Human Resources and Social Development.

Nazaha’s vigilance manifested through an extensive series of 1,790 inspection visits conducted over the course of the month. Within this scrutiny, evidence emerged implicating 268 individuals in corrupt practices.

Of these individuals, a notable 166 citizens and residents found themselves under arrest, their apprehension facilitated in accordance with the Criminal Procedures Law. While some were subsequently released on bail, the gravity of the charges they face cannot be understated.

The accusations leveled against these individuals range from accepting bribes and abusing their positions of power to engaging in forgery and money laundering. Nazaha sources emphasize that legal proceedings are well underway, as preparations are made to usher these suspects through the trial process in court.
