In a bid to safeguard the interests of local industries, the Saudi General Authority of Foreign Trade (GAFT) has embarked on an anti-dumping investigation targeting the influx of longitudinally welded circular cross-section pipes of stainless steel from China and Taiwan.
This pivotal move, in compliance with the Law of Trade Remedies in International Trade enacted on November 23, 2022, underscores the Kingdom’s commitment to fair trade practices.
Article 4 of the aforementioned law entrusts GAFT with the crucial responsibility of executing trade-remedy tasks, encompassing investigations, reviews, and the implementation of measures aligned with the nation’s international obligations, notably the Anti-Dumping Agreement, the Agreement on Subsidies and Countervailing Measures, and the Safeguards Agreement.
The primary aim of this legislative framework is to shield the domestic industry from the detrimental effects of dumped and subsidized imports, curbing the potential surge in imports while bolstering the resilience of Saudi exports subject to trade-remedy measures.
