Trump Pushes Supreme Court to Fast-Track Tariff Battle

Donald Trump is steering his trade fight straight to the nation’s highest court, urging the Supreme Court to deliver a swift ruling on his tariff strategy after a lower court branded it unlawful.

Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump said his administration would seek an expedited review as early as Wednesday. “We need an early decision,” he declared, warning that a ruling against him would spell “devastation” for the U.S. economy.

The clash erupted last week when an appeals court concluded that Trump’s sweeping tariffs, imposed under a 1977 emergency powers law, exceeded his authority. Still, the judges kept the levies in place until October 14, giving the White House time to appeal.

Tariffs have long been one of Trump’s economic calling cards. He touts them as a revenue engine, saying they have poured billions into government coffers while putting pressure on foreign competitors.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent voiced confidence that the Supreme Court will ultimately side with Trump, defending the tariffs as a lawful extension of presidential emergency powers.

The stakes are high: if the Supreme Court strips Trump of this tool, it could unravel a cornerstone of his economic agenda just as global trade tensions continue to simmer.
