In a twist of political drama, Donald Trump’s campaign has lodged a formal complaint with the Federal Election Commission. The contention? Vice President Kamala Harris’s swift takeover of funds originally raised for President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign. As Biden steps back from the race, Harris, endorsed by the President, has quickly moved to secure the campaign’s financial resources.
The complaint, spearheaded by Trump’s legal advisor, David Warrington, accuses Harris of orchestrating what they call the “largest campaign finance violation in American history.” With approximately $95 million at stake, the Republican camp is pushing hard against Harris’s control over the war chest.
However, some experts, like Saurav Ghosh from the Campaign Legal Center, argue that since Harris was already on the “Biden for President” ticket, her claim to the funds is valid. Regardless, with the election looming, a resolution from the FEC seems unlikely to come before November 5th.
In response, Harris’s team dismissed the complaint as a distraction. Spokesperson Charles Kretchmer Lutvak countered, saying the GOP’s legal maneuvering won’t halt the Democrats’ momentum, emphasizing their focus on mobilizing voters and winning the election. Harris’s campaign has reportedly raised an additional $100 million since Biden’s endorsement, indicating strong support among Democratic voters.
