Ammaad Akhtar has pleaded guilty in federal court to attempting to provide material support to ISIS, admitting that he supplied money, weapons and equipment to people he believed were connected to the organisation.
Court filings describe online communications with an undercover officer between February and June 2025. Akhtar expressed support for ISIS, discussed travelling abroad to fight and sent money after being told it would be used to obtain firearms. In June 2025, he met another undercover agent and handed over clothing, binoculars, $400 in cash, two loaded firearms and six additional magazines before pledging allegiance to ISIS.
Prosecutors also attributed discussions of possible violence and homemade explosives to him. Those statements form part of the admitted factual background; the conviction itself is for attempted material support to a designated foreign terrorist organisation.
Sentencing is set for February 26, 2027. The offence carries a maximum sentence of 20 years and a $250,000 fine, with the final punishment left to the district judge.
The Justice Department’s October 30 release summarises the plea.
