Qatar’s Shura Council Charts New Path with Advertising Law Amendments

In a pivotal session at the Tamim bin Hamad Hall, Qatar’s Shura Council moved forward on amendments to a decade-old advertising regulation. The council approved changes to Law No. 1 of 2012, aiming to refine the oversight and placement of advertisements across the nation. The draft law now heads to the government for final consideration.

This decision came after members reviewed insights from the Health, Public Services, and Environment Affairs Committee. Following extensive discussions, the council unified its stance on modernizing advertisement laws to reflect current standards and practices.

Beyond this, the session tackled pressing environmental concerns. The council revisited a governmental response to their earlier proposal addressing “rainwater remains and subsequent losses caused.” The matter was reassigned to the Health, Public Services, and Environment Affairs Committee for further scrutiny, ensuring comprehensive recommendations are made.

Additionally, the Shura Council approved extensions for five permanent committees, enabling them to delve deeper into matters currently under their review.

Global collaboration also took the spotlight. The council assessed reports from recent international engagements, including participation in the Arab Parliament’s legislative sessions in Cairo and a parliamentary meeting held during the COP29 climate summit in Baku. These interactions underscore Qatar’s active involvement in regional and global discourse.

As the Shura Council continues its work, its focus remains firmly on aligning national policies with the evolving needs of Qatar’s society and its role on the global stage.
