Saudi Anti-Corruption Drive: 158 Ministry Employees Arrested in January

In a bold crackdown on corruption, Saudi Arabia’s Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha) arrested 158 government employees across multiple ministries in January alone. These individuals face serious charges, including bribery and abuse of office.

The arrests spanned a wide range of government sectors, including the Ministries of Interior, Defense, National Guard, Justice, Health, Education, Commerce, and Municipalities and Housing. Some suspects were granted bail, but investigations continue.

Nazaha’s efforts were marked by an extensive series of 1,076 inspection tours, uncovering widespread misconduct. As a result, 396 individuals are under investigation, and both criminal and administrative cases have been launched. This latest round of arrests highlights Saudi Arabia’s commitment to combatting corruption at all levels of government.
