In a move to streamline official documentation, Saudi Arabia’s General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat) has rolled out a new service allowing citizens to electronically issue passports for adopted family members through the Absher platform.
This initiative simplifies the process for families by enabling them to complete applications online. To access the service, users log in to Absher, navigate to family member services, select the foster families program, fill out the required information, accept the declaration, and submit the request.
The adoption framework in Saudi Arabia includes several conditions: prospective families must be Saudi nationals, consist of a married couple, and the wife must be under 50. A woman may adopt alone under specific circumstances. Additionally, medical screenings ensure families are free of contagious diseases, and social research evaluates their suitability in terms of conduct, psychological stability, and economic capacity.
By integrating this passport service into Absher, the authorities aim to provide a smoother, more efficient experience for foster families while maintaining strict adoption criteria.
